Thoughts, Beliefs, Perceptions & Your Health

Thank you to Caroline Wickham at Power Yoga for hosting a superb film on Wednesday evening explaining how important perception, beliefs and emotions are if we are to enjoy good health.

Most of us are familiar with the effects of stress.  Here are some examples:

  • A sleepless night because something is on your mind.
  • You have worked so hard up until your holiday but you don’t have time to be ill, once you go on holiday you become ill.
  • An upset stomach caused by nerves or through stress
  • Tension in your shoulders from holding your stress there
  • Tension headaches/migraines

The list goes on.  What if all our health issues are as a result of events in which we do not have a strategy to deal with (stress)?

The theme of the film was how we have the power within ourselves to live a more healthy existence.  Our thoughts, beliefs and perception of events determine which chemicals are released from the brain.  Positive thoughts will release health inducing chemicals whereas negative thoughts will have the opposite effect. 

When we are in the stress mode, also known as fight or flight, we cannot heal or grow because our body is too busy working hard to protect us; repairing the damage.  It is responding to the messages we are sending it.  Most of these messages will be subconscious.  You will most likely be unaware of many of your beliefs because they are deeply buried in your subconscious.  Using subconscious therapies enables an awareness of these beliefs and access to change them to positive beliefs. 

So perhaps you are wondering what beliefs?  These could be along the lines of:

  • The world is a dangerous place
  • People cannot be trusted
  • I am not safe
  • I am unlovable
  • I am a failure

Your beliefs start forming at such a young age.  Many of them before you are 6 years old as you are trying to make sense of the world and find your place in that world.

If you fear something,  you will attract it.  If you fear losing something, it will be pulled away from you, eg a relationship.

We create our own future.  What if our body had the ability to heal itself?  

What if you had more power over your health than you ever realised?  Would you like to be empowered to better health …..now?
